The Yagi is a directional antenna, usually of greater gain than an 'omni'. Typically used at 'fixed' (non-mobile) Remote locations, these antennas 'point' at their associated Master or Repeater. There are three primary advantages to utilizing a Yagi where possible:
Your transmit - and receive - energy is concentrated in the desired direction,
By concentrating in one direction, you are not as susceptible to noise and interference which may be present 'off path', and
A high gain Yagi may be used to compensate for the loss of long feeder cable.
Be sure to be mindful of the maximum EIRP allowable for your system, particularly when using high gain antennas.
